GOLF: Up to 70 players from all parts of Central Queensland will play in the Gladstone Junior Open Championships on Sunday at the scenic Gladstone Gold Club.
Among those are 10-year-old Linzi McBean who will play in the six-hole category.
While Linzi and older brother Oscar are talented tennis players as well, she said she preferred the more subtle sport.
"My older brother is the better golfer but I'm hoping to achieve a lot in golf," she said.
"I'm just hoping to get a better score than usual and Derran Corke has been helping me out."
Fellow six-hole competitor Nicolas Underhill started golf last year and Sunday's competition will be his first.
"My golf has been going pretty good and I have been working mostly on my putting and my seven-iron chipping," he said.
The event will start at 7.30am and consist of the full round of 18 holes for the older juniors made up of three divisions.
The younger and less experienced players will compete in either 13, nine, six and three-hole formats.
There's plenty of incentive for the players because they have a chance to win prizes that total $1500.
Sunday's event will conclude what may be a busy weekend for some players given the Miriam Vale Golf Club will host the exact same format on Saturday.
